Hey, it’s post #100 for us today. Thanks for all the positive feedback and support so far. Hopefully this will stay interesting for everyone and we can keep having fun… Got some quick 1 or 2 liners today for a picture post… Feel free to leave your comments.

Love the CXA song on here. Super sludgy intro. Definitely the best Turning Point song on this comp too. Actually pretty much everything is awesome. Kind of a lesser Burn song, but it’s still Burn.

It’s kind of weird that I think this record cover looks so cool, because it’s just a bunch of scratches or pen marks, but it’s always looked super cool to me. From a time when taking the name “pure hate” would not have been associated with a scally cap.

Oh you’re gonna want that Cruck track. Maybe not for this price, but you’re gonna want and need it. Are they the America’s Hardcore of Japan? Maybe they should get more credit than that… Comp track only bands… HOW FRUSTRATING.

Seriously… this record’s not even good. My rule of thumb though, is I’ll buy any Spazz record I don’t have for $5 or less. Even when the vocals get super stupid, the song’s about underwear, and there’s a banjo overdub into a Welcome Back Cotter sample, you can find a good riff. It’s just usually followed by like… a duet between Elmo and Grover. I respect the guys in the band though. They had a good hustle even though making “Power Violence” “funny” was the worst move ever.

  1. Keep it up, I enjoy reading this. In fact so much I just wrote this: http://only-in-it-for-the-music.blogspot.com/2008/04/investment-made-in-heaven.html

  2. I’m not sure who all exactly does all the writing for this (I know CC does at least) but I really love this blog and check it daily. The reviews are awesome and make me feel so stupid. It’s great to read something more than “This is crushing and floors me. Really devastating stuff.” or the worst “not really my things but good for what it is”. The reviews are precise and brutally honest to say the least. I haven’t trusted anyone on their review of a record in a long time which leads me to my question…Have you guys ever thought of reviewing new hardcore and punk? I would really like to know what’s worth listening to in a sea of shit. thanks. and if not is there any blogs i should check?

Funny story about the Forever comp…When Tim Singer received the test pressing from the plant, he brought it over to Sam McPheeters place for us to listen to. (Us would include members of Born Against and Rorschach). We were all into the music until we hit the Rorschach track. You have to remember this was their first vinyl apperance and it was terrible. A bit later, Keith, Charles and I were out on the porch talking about it… “Do you think it is the mastering?”, “Should we ask to rerecord it?” They were so stressed out over that track. The fact of the matter was it sucked, plain and simple. They would go on to make a couple of great records. (Just don’t ask me about that 2nd Lp!)

  4. Dave, you don’t like Protestant?

  5. rorschach didn’t hit their stride til the first lp, their comp songs on the Evacuate comp are terrible too. My friend (aka. COOCH) was at a WFMU swap and pulled a rorschach demo outta some box and charles swooped down behind him and was like “i’ll be taking that”. personally though i love the 2nd lp. the vocals are screechy, but it works for me (and i’m not usually a screechy vocal guy). Ornaments is one of the all time great closing tracks IMO.

Mind Eraser did a WFMU session about a year ago for Tony Rettman’s show and charles and his wife Jen came and engineered it, they were super cool.

Never heard the Rorshach demo, I thought the thorn of Charles’ side was the Bone Of Contention demo?
